Marangara Trail Bridge

Rugera and Marangara-Tyazo, Nyabihu, Rwanda

Structural typology: PEDESTRIAN BRIDGES
Date: February, 2026
Owner: Municipio de Marangara
Construction: FIKA - FHECOR - CTA - Comunidad de Marangara
Scope: detailed design and construction monitoring

Fhecor once again collaborated with the NGO FIKA (formerly Bridges to Prosperity) and the Italian company CTA (Collegio dei Tecnici dell"Acciaio) on the construction of a 95-metre suspension footbridge over the Nyamutera River in Rwanda. Five Fhecor volunteers and seven CTA volunteers took part in the works, travelling to the country in February 2026.

The footbridge will serve more than 2,400 people from the communities of Rugera and Marangara-Tyazo, providing year-round access to schools, health centres and markets, especially during the rainy season, when flooding of the river made crossing dangerous or impossible.

Despite heavy rainfall, which forced the works to be interrupted on several occasions, construction was completed as planned. The project culminated in an inauguration ceremony alongside the local community.
