Rehabilitation of the structure of Piers No. 1 and No. 2 at the San Diego Oil Terminal

A Coruña Harbour, Spain

Structural typology: SEA STRUCTURES
Date: June, 2025
Owner: Puerto de A Coruña
Scope: repair project and technical support

Both piers are located in the San Diego Oil Basin at the Inner Port of A Coruña, constructed in 1963 and 1965, respectively, with a separation of 155 m between them. The infrastructures consist of three reinforced concrete beam decks and an isostatic walkway, all simply supported on massive piers or piles (four prismatic piles per pier with a center-to-center distance of 23.35 m). The piles were built with prefabricated elements directly supported on a granular material bench on the rocky seabed.

The walkway consists of a prestressed concrete deck with a box-type cross-section.

The distance from shore to pier No. 1 is 55 m, and 65 m for pier No. 2. The width of the decks varies between 17.20 m and 16.20 m. Between the pier and the riprap, a deck of 14.80 m in length and 5.15 m in width is projected.
